Application of fused alumina in refractory materials

Apr 15, 2022
The production of fused alumina has nearly doubled in the past ten years. In addition to the increasing demand for corundum bricks in petrochemical, fertilizer and other industries, long nozzles, tundish integral plugs and submerged nozzles for continuous casting in the iron and steel industry. Others also turned to Al2O3-C refractory materials, most of which are alumina raw materials using fused alumina, and high-grade unshaped refractories also use a large amount of fused alumina as aggregates and powders.

The main classification and application of fused alumina

Fused brown alumina has the properties of high temperature resistance, high oxidation resistance, erosion resistance, wear resistance, etc., so the sliding nozzle is used for smelting rare and precious metals, special alloys, ceramics, iron-making blast furnace linings (walls and pipes); physical and chemical utensils , spark plugs, heat-resistant and anti-oxidative coating.

Fused white alumina is a high-grade refractory raw material, the main crystal phase is α-Al2O3, and the color is white. It has the characteristics of high bulk density, low porosity, good volume stability and thermal shock resistance. It is suitable for large-scale steel castings, especially alloy castings, core surface sand, coatings and shell materials for investment casting.

Dense fused alumina has the characteristics of high melting point, large bulk density and low porosity, and has excellent wear resistance, slag resistance, volume stability and thermal shock resistance at high temperature. Therefore, dense fused corundum is an ideal raw material for making unshaped refractory materials such as blast furnace iron trench castables, ladle castables, ramming materials, prefabricated parts, and continuous casting three parts, breathable bricks, nozzle block bricks and other shaped products.
